B for Beetlejuice (and Lydia of course !)

So, this is the Skullector doll line, launched in 2020. This line has, so far, 4 dolls based on famous horror movies : Pennywise from It, the Grady twins from Shinning, Beetlejuice and Lydia and Greta from Gremlins 2. They seems to release 2 dolls per year, one single and one double. This is clearly aimed at adult collectors and Mattel plays a lot on nostalgia (witch works!)! They are very seek after by collectors and resale prices climb as quickly as they are out. They are very hard to get and go sold out arount 2 min after release. Mattels gives a very short notice so it makes it even harder not to miss it. With timezone it become a nightmare... Most of us are very sad Mattel doesn't do more and makes them so hard to get... On the good point, they are sold worldwide and shipped quite quickly. On the bad side, no tracking, so it is a bit a surprise delivery and they transit in lot of countries before getting to EU, witch make the process very unecologic...

Beetlejuice is one of the 2021 release. It's based on the eponym movie made by Tim Burton. My young brother, who is 13 years younger than me, haven't even seen this movie (yes, we'll fix that !!). For me it's a classic, that's why I'm pretty sure the line is due to 30's or 40's collectors.
For the youngest, Beetlejuice is a 1988 fantastic comedy staring a bunch of famous actors. Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis plays a recently deceased couple that tries to ghost the new family who moved in their house in order to make them leave. They seek help after Beetlejuice, a weird living exorcist, played by Michael Keaton. But during the process they came to like the family's little girl, Lydia, played by Winona Ryder.
This release was an occasion to rewatch it, and we were both lauthing as if the first time with hubby. The dinner scene is always a great moment.

The dolls came in a basic brown carton stamped Mattel and with the name of the dolls on it. So, no surprises possible and I'm always afraid someone steals it... The outer carton is juste the size of the doll box, no lost space. The doll box come wraped in white tissue paper to protect it. The box is very gorgeous and a good display option for the dolls. That good that I struggled a lot weather open them or not... But, I couldn't resist !

The box is quite simple, all in black, featuring the dolls. Beetlejuice owns the front, whereas Lydia only get the back. They share one side thought.

The box opens in the middle at the front so you can see the dolls under plastic without deboxing, witch is a very nice touch for collectors. As you'll see on later pics, the back can be removed without damaging it, nor the box. This way you can use it for shelf display and fold the box flat so it takes less room if you want to keep it in storage, witch I will do.

The art of the box is really awome and I was so impressed when I got it. I feels totally in the spirit of the movie.

Now out of the box ! When I saw the add for the first time I thought it was a fanmade. They feels very different from the first two release of this line, witch were too serious for me.

Beetlejuice's hair is frizzy, like the electrified dolls line. It's vivid green but not neon.
Lydia's is very soft and all black, no straight of coulor.

Their little book of the dead just had me. Overall, this doll line has pretty cool accessories. Sadly it is only printed on the front.

Beetlejuice's hat is quite weird but looking pretty good. It feels more like it was made for Jack Skellington than for Beetlejuice but it is still a nice reference. This is one of the reasons I first thought it was an ooak. It's taped and fixed with an elastic to her head, so it won't move for sure !

Her makeup is very bright and purple witch contrast well with her tuquoise eyes. She has a green contouring like if she was rotting... The result is very soft and good looking. I don't know any other doll on witch they have done this effect.

She shares her face mold with Moanica but with a before reboot Monster High body. As many collectors I prefer those bodys but mine has very fragile joints on elbows. New body feels way stronger. Mine has an arm a bit curvy and her hands weren't fully in the socket but I could get them in. Her romper stained a bit her belly too.

Her earings are also a reuse of Moanica's, only with another coulor.

Beetlejuice's body is all white, like Catherine's but without the hole on her back. She has classical MH printed on panties.

She comes with a romper, a jacket, earings, shoes, hat, a belt and a tie necklace. The tie necklace is very cool. Her stand is a basic MH in black. I found them very fragile and broke a lot of them, even being very cautious. I noticed for the first time that they are not plain black plastic but printed on.

The jacket is really well made, with several layers of tulle and lace. Tulle is printed on with an holographic effect but the pictures doesn't shows it well. Inside is just white with a tag saying "from the makers of Monster High, Skullectors, 2020".

We don't see many rompers on dolls, so it's always refreshing. In MH I think Cleo, Franckie and Clawdeen had few, Catherine fierce's rocker too, Gigi's basic outift, Lagoona Wheel Love and Toralei Power Ghouls.

Some collectors were very dispointed Beetlejuice wasn't a boy but I like this interpretation and she really is an awsome doll. But it's true we didn't get any mâle skullector... Pennywise was also on a female body.

Their shoes are both very detailled but not painted, they are full black. It is made in a very soft plastic so they slip in and off very easily without having a big hole behind. Beetlejuice's features Adam and Barabara first try making their faces scary.

Lydia has a very pale natural skin body. It's the only MH with a human kind of skin tone. Her makeup is really natural too, all in beige tones, with brown eyes.
Her frindge is caked in gel but quite well posed.
Her hat is stappled in her head as well. It's very detailed, like if it was a staw hat.

She stole Vandala's head sculpt on a small sis MH body (before reboot). That said, if I wasn't told for the head, I would'nt have guessed... The coulors make them look like totally different girls (with a hat kind of head).
Her hands has a pretty uncommon sculpt. It allows her to hold her camera and the book, witch is pretty cool for display. She has very pointy ears and an emplacement for the hole. Sadly it is too hard to take in pic, so I can't show you...

She comes with a stand, wears black fishnet tights and a dress with holographic print and a silver button or broch, I don't know exactly. This dress is awsome but I have to admit, like many collectors, I would have loved to see her in the red wedding dress. Or get it as a change ! I've seen some handmade alredy, maybe I could find one for later pics hehe.

Her camera has a little button behind so you can take it off easily, even with her hat on.

Her shoes features Beetlejuice in his snake form. It's also all black and soft plastic.

Overall, this is a very beautifull set for a quite decent price if you were among the luckiest who can get it directly from Mattel. It kinda reminds me the SDCC editions but this time Mattel gave a tiny chance to EU collectors to get it at a decent price.
